On 12 December 2018, members and partners of the Education and Solidarity Network mobilise in great numbers for the International Universal Health Coverage Day (UHC Day). In its second year of participation in this international campaign for health for all, the ESN has managed to collect more than 1100 photographic testimonies from education professionals, unionists, mutualists, activists and members of associations in Africa, the Americas and Europe. In total, twenty-four ESN member or partner organisations from thirteen countries mobilised.
The message conveyed by the participants was: “I am proud to support Universal Health Coverage. Together, we can achieve #HealthForAll. Join us! #UHCDay”. All the testimonies have been published and can be found on our Twitter and Facebook pages.
This international campaign celebrates the adoption by the United Nations, on December 12, 2012, of a historic resolution calling on all countries to accelerate progress towards the UHC as a key priority for international development.
This celebration was an opportunity to reaffirm that health is a human right, which implies access for all to quality health services. At a time when social inequalities in health are widening, it is essential to reaffirm the need for Universal Health Coverage that guarantees access to quality healthcare and the improvement of living conditions for all.
For this initiative, the ESN received the support and congratulations of the UHC2030 Partnership, which brings together governments, international organizations and civil society organizations mobilized for the extension of the UHC.
