Mutuals and health insurance funds play an important role when it comes to the promotion of healthy lifestyles and the prevention of diseases. They can be seen as health educators by carrying out health promotion campaigns among their members, as well as epidemiological sources and promoters of research in health promotion thanks to their large amount of data and information.
They are also important players in the political dialogue about health systems and healthcare budgets.
To address the issue, the International Association of not-for-profit Health Mutuals and health insurance funds (AIM), founding member of our Network, organises a working group dedicated to health promotion, environmental health and disease prevention. The group is composed of health promotion experts from all over Europe.
The working group activities go from the exchange of best practices to more concrete lobby initiatives towards EU institutions with the aim to improving population health, and reducing morbidity and mortality. AIM recently published a position paper on Promotion and Disease Prevention that can be found here.
