The International Association of Mutual Benefit Societies held its General Assembly statutory meetings 28-30 June 2017 in Antwerp, Belgium. Approximately 130 mutualists had gathered together to exchange their activities and challenges, discuss health and insurance and elect the new presidium. As usual, it was the African and Middle East and the Latin American committees which opened the festivities first with a joint meeting on the theme of access to health for disenfranchised populations then with regional meetings on the themes of support for the development of the mutual movement and health promotion. The European Affairs Committee focused on the challenges and opportunities of big data in the health sector.
As for the elections, President Zahn was elected for a further three years. The following vice‑presidents were then elected: Pedro Bleck Da Silva (Portugal), Abdelaziz Alaoui (Morocco), Loek Caubo (the Netherlands). Several VIPs from the Education and Solidarity Network were also given a vote of confidence from the members of AIM: Matthias Savignac, Alain Coheur and Elisa Torrenegra.
The AIM arranged to meet its members and partners in Rome in November 2017 for its next meetings. A more detailed report of the meetings is available here in FR, ES and EN.
