The ESN was present at the launch of the “Education and Health” UNESCO Chair which took place at UNESCO headquarters in Paris, on Wednesday 10 October, 2018.
The “Education and Health” Chair is positioned as a strategic international actor for the production and transfer of knowledge, training, the development of tools for intervention and support for the development of intersectoral policies for the promotion of youth health. It is supported by a number of universities, a foundation and some companies from the world of education and healthcare and has many partnerships ensuring it enjoys significant international influence. The Chair is held by Didier Jourdan, a Professor at the University of Clermont-Auvergne, who set out the ambitions and challenges with Professor Beverley Yamamoto, who holds the Chair in Japan. The Chair’s objectives are improving research quality and social transformation– both intrinsically linked. Didier Jourdain has highlighted the prominent position that health promotion and prevention will have in future policies, and the need to create tools to reduce health and social inequalities.
Eric Chenut, MGEN Vice-President and President of the MGEN Foundation – the Chair’s major supporters – indicated that it was obvious for MGEN, the mutual benefit society of the education community in France, to align itself with those taking a stand so that children and young people become the solution to their health and to their well-being.
Health experts also spoke at the UNESCO forum, among them Michael Marmot, Professor of Epidemiology and Public Health at University College London, world renowned for his work on social health inequalities.
